 2) Goals

3) St. Hyacinth Academy / Notre Dame HS / Loma Linda Academy

  • WELS students spend their days from 8:00am to 3:00pm either at St. Hyacinth Academy, Notre Dame HS, or Loma Linda Academy. Each offers an exhilarating educational experience.
  • Students are allocated to small groups with certified teachers.
  • St. Hyacinth Academy, Notre Dame HS and Loma Linda Academy are rich in school tradition and each aims to create an environment which stimulates learning, promotes growth and allows each student to attain their potential.
  • Students participate in an intensive academic and balanced recreation program throughout their studies with 6 - 7 hours of instruction Monday to Friday.
  • In the company of their western peers they go through the full curriculum for their age, guided by teachers who are sensitive to the linguistic challenge faced by these visiting children.
  • This time at school also gives WELS students the opportunity to interact and make friends with students of their own age from different backgrounds and nationalities.
  • WELS instructors help students with their homework after school and also preview the next day¡¯s lesson.

ST. HYACINTH ACADEMY (www.shaeagles.org)

  • St. Hyacinth Academy (SHA), located in the city of San Jacinto, California, is a private Catholic pre-K to middle school. It was established in 1946 and over the years has served a diverse population.
  • Currently 265 students enrolled (2006-07). Max capacity for 450 students.
  • St. Hyacinth has developed a reputation for the quality of education its students receive and its high academic standards.

NOTRE DAME HIGH SCHOOL (www.ndtitans.org)

  • Notre Dame High School (NDHS) located in the city of Riverside, California, is a college preparatory private Catholic coed High School with Honors and AP courses. Founded in 1956 and over the years has served a diverse population.
  • Currently 575 students enrolled (2006-07). Max capacity for 650 students.
  • 97% of graduates attend a two year college or four year university.
  • Exceptionally qualified teachers (42% with Masters Degrees and five with Ph.D. Degree).
  • Fully accredited through the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and the Western Catholic Education Association and a member of the National Catholic Education Association

LOMA LINDA ACADEMY (www.lla.org)

  • Loma Linda Academy (LLA), located in the city of Loma Linda, California is a Seventh-day Adventist college preparatory private coed high school with an esteemed tradition of excellence. It was established in 1921 and over the years has served a diverse population.
  • WELS students spend their days from 8:00am to 3:00pm at Loma Linda Academy, which offers an exhilarating educational experience.
  • Currently 550 students enrolled (2006-07). Max capacity for 650 students.
  • Loma Linda Academy is rich in school tradition with a history of over 85yrs and each aims to create an environment which stimulates learning, promotes growth and allows each student to attain their potential.
  • 99% of students who graduate from Loma Linda Academy attend college. Approximately 75% of the students attend a four-year college or university and about 24% attend a two-year college.
  • 38 certified teachers, all have either a B.S. or B.A. degree; 21 have a Master¡¯s degree, one has a Ph.D. degree, one has an Ed.S. and one has an Ed.D. degree.
  • Honors Classes are offered in the areas of Mathematics, Science, and English.
  • SPECIAL PROGRAMS (University of California, Riverside). In addition to the college preparatory curriculum offered on campus, selected juniors and seniors are enrolled in summer classes at the University of California, Riverside Campus. Juniors and Seniors participate in the Summer Academy for Advanced High School Students.

5) WELS Spanish Courtyard Residences

WELS provides accommodation at its Spanish Courtyard residences for students during the academic program. A resident attendant provides supervision, care and English instruction while the students stay at WELS Spanish Courtyard Residences.

At WELS we believe in providing a healthy and balanced diet for each student. As a result we are proud to be the first company to provide our students with USDA organic meals for breakfast, brunch and dinner. Eating such foods will only enhance the student¡¯s growth mentally and physically.

Students generally share double or triple rooms or may have a single room of their own depending on availability. All rooms are furnished with two single or two double beds, goose down blankets with a duvet cover, pillow, TV, refrigerator and a wall air conditioning unit. A desk, chair, shelve and wastebasket will be provided as will bed sheets, pillowcases and towels. A humidifier will also be provided. Basic bathroom essentials like a soap dish, tooth brush holder and bathmat will be provided too. The use of electrical cooking appliances, candles and incense in rooms is prohibited by fire and insurance regulations.

California¡¯s diversity in terms of its people, food and culture is unparalleled on the west coast. Our California Program offers an amazing array of cultural, sporting and entertainment events and opportunities. Live the California dream by exploring the celebrity handprints on the Hollywood Walk of Fame or take a tour of the stars¡¯ multi-million dollar Beverly Hills mansions and window shop for the latest fashions in Rodeo Drive¡¯s exclusive boutiques. Check out the eccentric performers along Santa Monica Beach or take a campus tour of UCLA.

MEALS: Meals provided outside will contain a dollar limit of $5 per lunch and $10 per dinner.
