  • For young men and women planning to study or work in Western society, the WELS experience will provide a foundation of cultural understanding that is bound to lead to success in their future endeavors.

3) YMCA summer enrichment program

  • WELS students spend their days from 8:00am to 4:00pm at the YMCA, which offers an exhilarating cultural and language experience.
  • Students are allocated to small groups with certified teachers.
  • YMCA is rich in tradition and aims to create an environment which stimulates learning, promotes growth and allows each child to attain their potential during the program.
  • Students will participate in a recreation program that is cultural and language based with 6 hours of instruction Monday to Friday.
  • In the company of their western peers they go through the YMCA curriculum, guided by teachers who are sensitive to the linguistic challenge faced by these visiting children.
  • This time at the YMCA also gives WELS students the opportunity to interact and make friends with students of their own age from different backgrounds and nationalities.
  • WELS instructors help students with their homework after school and also preview the next day¡¯s lesson.

4) Special trips
Perhaps the greatest highlights of the WELS program in California are the special excursions to:
