Portfolio Program Overview Introduction The idea of this program started out with the fact that there is an apparent lack of expertise in Asia in regard to Art Education in the United States. As a result, students interested in studying art in the United States have enlisted the services of education consultants who cannot provide advice on which institutions would be most suitable. Students later on find out the school they have enrolled in was not what they had in mind so they spend a lot of unnecessary time and money trying to transfer to another institution. Our 3 and 5-month programs serve to expose students to the top art colleges in the Northeastern and Northwestern United States. Not only will they get to see these highly reputable institutions with their own eyes, WELS will also arrange seminars with those who have preceded them in coming to the United States to study art. Each student during this program will be able to make a well-informed decision on what school is most suitable for him or her. With a clear vision in mind the participant is more apt to focus on what he/she needs to do in order to be accepted into the college of his/her choice. Portfolio Program Within the past few years, there has been a high interest in students who come to United States to strengthen their portfolio and many are currently in the US preparing their portfolio. There has been much interest around the world, especially from Korea, where students come to regions in the United States to pursue art. New York in particular is regarded as “the” city to get the best education in this field. The uniqueness and diversity of cultures in New York attribute to this. New York also is home to many well known designers, artists and top art colleges in the world. Those who prepare for art colleges are familiar with the highly competitive admissions process. The most important part of this process is the portfolio. To create a well prepared portfolio, one must produce unique and distinguishable pieces to stand above the rest. In order to do so, many enroll at art academies to get help. WELS' Art College Portfolio Program stands out from the rest because it puts an emphasis on quality. WELS only recruits teachers who have experienced themselves the pressure of trying to beat the competition and who have studied at only the top art colleges in the United States such as Parsons and RISD (Rhode Island School of Design). Our program which is based out of Manhattan provides special attention to students with our 1 to 1 or 1 to 2 student/teacher ratios. Our teachers help students work according to the ever changing trends and individual character and talents a student possesses. Students are able to produce innovative ideas and convert these into expressions of art. WELS' Art College Portfolio Program also trains its students to practice and to be successful during the interview process. Our teachers guide students to use practical and skillful ways to leave a lasting impression which only makes the chance of admission greater. In most Asian countries, especially Korea, art academies only teach students how to achieve high grades. At WELS, however, the Art College Portfolio program not only helps to achieve academic success, it instills valuable skills, both experimental and observational, through creativity and special training. Clients will be taught by respected teachers to produce innovative ideas and covert these into expressions of art. They will also be trained to practice to be successful during the interview process and build a portfolio suited for art institutions in the United States, ensuring admission, adjustment in the classroom, and success upon completion of their studies.
